It’s a short life

We all know that a human life is relatively short. Quite understandably, this is a harsh reality that scares many people. As a consequence, some of us try not to think about the modest amount of time we get to spend on this planet. We get so pre-occupied with living our lives that we often forget to manage our time effectively, so that we can live life to the full.

This subconscious lack of respect for time sees us all wasting precious moments – moments that we will simply never get back. We cannot reclaim spent time.

Our time is our most precious asset

It’s a sobering reality to think that time is our most precious asset. Under deep analysis, it’s fair to say that time is the only item that we truly own, because everything else, all of our other possessions etc., are simply loaned to. Our possessions are only ours whilst we are granted the time on this planet to enjoy them.

In my coaching work, I have learned that some people are so pre-occupied with subconscious living that they never pause to think about their deeper life desires, how they can extract maximum enjoyment and value from their time on this earth.

Some people just exist. Their focus is finding enough money to barely cover the monthly bills. There are people who simply exist to work. They don’t work to live. They live to work.

Pause to consider what you really want from your life

I have learned that there are a surprising number of people that don’t pause to consider their unsatisfactory lives and how they might make positive and life improving changes. Some people just carry on, often feeling miserable, stressed and heading for outcomes that you don’t really want to contemplate – poverty, under achievement, depression and illness.

Here are the five questions that sometimes make people cry

I am of the opinion that everyone deserves a mentor. By my definition, the word mentor means:  ‘a caring and knowledgeable person – someone who comes along and asks some simple but very important questions of a person they want to help’.

To express my meaning, here are some of the questions I ask my clients:

  1. Are you happy with your life?
  2. What makes you happy?
  3. What makes you unhappy?
  4. Why do you spend your time doing what you do?
  5. What would you really like to achieve from your life – what would you like to do with your precious time?

These are questions that really do force people to search their soul to find the answers.

When I ask these questions of new clients, I rarely get fast and snappy answers. Instead, I usually get long silences, knowing looks and sometimes tears.

The tears usually come because people are being asked to examine their life and to identify the desires and needs they have pushed to the back of their mind and their ambitions.

These five questions are simple enough but they are laser focused, poignant and all revealing. They truly make people reflect on their past life, how they have used their time thus far and how they might better plan for their future.

WHY DON’T YOU GRAB A PIECE OF PAPER, WRITE DOWN THESE QUESTIONS AND TAKE SOME QUIET TIME OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS TO CONSIDER THEM?

I always ask these five questions on my first discovery call or meeting with new clients.

Some clients ask for some time to revert back to me with their answers. Other clients decide not to tackle these questions and I never hear from them again.

That’s ok. Even though I know this level of soul searching is not for everyone, I feel passionate about sharing these questions. These are questions we should all ask ourselves.

My five questions can open the door to a different life path, a pathway that can lead to greater fulfilment, a road that gives people more time and a better appreciation for what this world has to offer.

The questions cause some people call me back with excitement in their voice

After contemplating these five simple questions, there are many new clients who revert back to me with an excited tone in their voice. They have decided enough is enough. They are tired of a life of discontentment and they want to ensure their precious time on this planet is spent doing what they really want.

These are the people I am excited to work alongside, to share the method of life design that has worked for me and so many of my colleagues.

There are many options to support life design

Soon after the realisation that people can design their lives, they begin to look for the options that allow them to make the changes. Often, this involves the pursuit of a better work life balance and a desire to work from home.

The industry that I work within has some truly amazing and proven opportunities for people to shape a life of design, to work from home and to enjoy a lifestyle that many people only dream of but disregard. I am living evidence that you can design your life. In fact, the journey I have been on started with these same five questions.
